Microsoft is updating the Cortana app for Android to pick up a feature Windows phone users may have missed: the ability to read out SMS text messages out loud.

What this means is that for users with Bluetooth headsets, Cortana will read out incoming texts and then prompt for a response, just like it used to do on Windows phones when Cortana was first introduced.

This would go a long way in making Cortana safer in hands-free scenarios like driving or cooking.

The update is currently in beta, but will be probably roll out to general users shortly.
