Google is working on a new feature that will allow tab groups in Chrome on the desktop to be closed with a middle click of the mouse, eliminating the need for multiple steps.

Until now, closing a tab group in Chrome required users to right-click on the tab group icon and select the “Close Group” option from the context menu. If you frequently use tab groups to organize browsing sessions, this is a tiresome process.

To simplify this, Google is introducing the ability to close an entire tab group by middle-clicking on the group’s header. Many users are already familiar with using the middle click to close individual tabs, making this new feature intuitive and easy to adopt.

On a related note, Google is also improving tab groups in Chrome for Android to bring them closer to parity with the desktop version. A new bottom bar is being developed to make it easier to add new tabs to groups. Additionally, tab group reordering and drag-and-drop functionality are expected to be introduced on mobile, further improving the user experience.
