With the release of the Surface Laptop and updated Surface, Pro Microsoft for the first time released their new devices worldwide, including in China.

The release also coincides with Microsoft releasing a special version of Windows 10 for government and state-owned businesses in China, and the company had earlier also opened their Windows 10 code to scrutiny by the Chinese government to win approval.

In an interview with Microsoft Corp.’s chairman and chief executive for greater China, Alain Crozier, the executive revealed to the WSJ why Microsoft is focussing more on the Chinese market.

According to Crozier China is already Microsoft’s second largest market for Surface, and will soon be the single largest market.

Crozier also noted that Microsoft’s cloud business is also growing well in China, and that, unlike Google, Microsoft has never really left China and had a presence in the market for more than 25 years.

“You have to be long-term focused when you come to this market. That’s the first thing,” he noted.
