Developer Helios Interactive has created a multiplayer board game that augments creatures and battles on a gameboard, titled Echelon. In the game, players use cards to spawn creatures, and the monsters battle it out, all while building on the gameplay mechanics seen in many traditional physical board games.

Helios developer Kristafer Vale says that he was inspired by Star Wars’ HoloChess, stating “When I saw the HoloChess game in Star Wars, I immediately wanted to play that game… And I had to wait now for us to have that technology like Unity and HoloLens to be able to realize that dream.”

Helios Interactive Producer Devin Fuller Knight also wanted a game where two HoloLens users can experience the same augmented world together, saying “the fact that you can actually interact with another player in a HoloLens and [while] being in a HoloLens is really fun, it’s such a solo experience. The idea of actually being able to interact with another player and both being able to see the same world exist in the same [space] is really fun.”

Though the game is in development stages, there’s no word on whether the game will actually ever come to the Window’s Holographic Store.
