Windows Phone is a pretty stable system, so seeing your device lock up dead may be a novelty for some.

Unfortunately if you use your Windows Phone to browse one of Germany’s most popular websites, the Bild.de, you may experience this much more often than expected.

It seems the large size of the page pretty reliable locks up Windows Phones even with the latest Tango Build (8773) requiring a soft reset to restore access.  Interestingly apparently this is not an issue for Mango, suggesting a bug was introduced with the more aggressive memory management of Windows Phone Tango.

To try it for yourself visit Bild..de here in desktop mode and scroll around the front page for a minute or so while it loads.  If that fails navigate to a news story and return to the front page.  That should also reliably do the trick. To restore your device remove the battery (Nokia Lumia 800 and 900 owners will need to hold the power, camera and volume keys in for 3-5 seconds)

Fortunately there is a Bild.de app in the Marketplace, but we hope this is not a wider issue that affects other very large pages.

Thanks Matthias for the tip.
