The Bing Maps team has announced that they have updated their routing algorithm. The team has replaced their modified Dijkstra’s algorithm with the“Customizable Route Planning” algorithm, which results in routes being calculated up to twice as fast.

The new algorithm has also enabled the calculation of multiple routes, and users of the Bing API can request up to 3 different alternate routes.

It is not clear if the update will also show up on Windows Phone 7, but it is likely in use already.

No word yet unfortunately about integrating Navteq data into Bing Maps.
