Sony, the Japanese tech giant behind the PlayStation consoles, has recently revealed its Q3 FY24 reports.
The company said that it’s shipped a total of 74.9 million PS5 units since its release, with 9.5 million units sold in Q3 FY24 alone. It’s a big increase compared to the previous quarter, though it’s attributed to the holiday shopping period.
Sony’s fiscal year sales data also highlights a steady increase from 7.8 million units sold in FY2020 to 20.8 million in FY2023. Last year, the popular console generated $31.06 billion in revenue, reflecting a 1.7% year-over-year growth.
The strongest quarter was Q3, with a record $11.05 billion in revenue, largely driven by $3.8 billion in hardware sales and other segments.
Though, despite this impressive performance, PlayStation’s Q3 FY24 operating margin was only 7%, with an operating income of $775 million. The PS5 Pro has also been introduced, further contributing to the console’s success as the PS5 approaches its fifth anniversary.
