Microsoft has been slowly introducing ads into Windows 10, mainly for its own products, but sometimes also for 3rd party apps, usually with much kickback from vocal users.
Now AggiornamentiLumia reports Microsoft is testing full-blown banner ads in the Mail and Calendar app for Windows 10.
Bad news: Mail for #Windows10 is getting ads for non-office 365 subscribers! https://t.co/xDELzAClJq pic.twitter.com/gXkQXab5Wr

The ads would only show for those who are not Office 365 subscribers, and it appears they would be personalized in some way, raising the spectre of Microsoft’s own version of Gmail Man.
Ads of course not in and of themselves evil, but most people feel they have paid for the built-in software in Windows, such as the mail app, when they purchased the computer, and it appears the ads will show even if you use a non-Microsoft email provider.
The banner ads are currently only being tested by Insiders, but we assume it will not be long before Microsoft finds another outlet for its Bing Ads business.
