In an unusual early statement on the quarter’s sales, AT&T Mobility Chief Executive Ralph de la Vega said at the UBS media and communications conference that smartphones are selling very well this quarter, with 6.4 million smartphones sold in only two months.

The majority of these will be iPhones, but he went on to say that he’s “really excited” about Windows Phone sales and that Nokia’s Lumia phones were selling “very well”, adding that inventory was tight for Lumia phones.

AT&T Inc raised its 2012 smartphone sales target to 26 million from 25 million on strong demand so far this quarter.

Of course de la Vega’s statements can not be translated into actual numbers of Windows Phones sold, but if supply lasts I expect a significant bump from previous quarters this year.
