The consumerization of IT and the proliferation of mobile operating systems, from iPhone to Windows Phone to Android, means that companies and developers that want to create meaningful and rich mobile interactions on the exploding array of devices available to the marketplace today need to support multiple platforms for mobile applications.
To date, more than 3500 applications have been created using the AppMakr platform, including the very popular iTunes applications for the PGA Tour, the Perez Hilton blog, the Harvard Business Review, BBC, and PBS.
“Mobile is the new frontier for news content, and our users rely on the PBS NewsHour app for news video, audio, and in-depth analysis,†said Travis Daub, creative Director of the PBS NewsHour. “No segment of our audience is growing faster than mobile. We’re absolutely thrilled that AppMakr is extending support for Android and Windows Phone 7. We will be able to rapidly roll out new apps and updates to support even more devices, and greatly expand our mobile reach. â€

“Mobility has long passed the point of ‘check-box’ for companies wishing to engage business users and consumers,†said Sean Shadmand, President, AppMakr. “The mobile channel is the fastest growing new communication channel, and as it evolves, applications demand more collaborative and social components that enable rich and meaningful interactions. AppMakr is committed to the social evolution of mobility, and enabling anyone, regardless of job function or technical expertise, to turn their unique vision into reality.â€

Comment:
While many may complain Windows Phone 7 does not need these cookie-cutter-type applications, moves like these by a recognized service will make it all the more easy for a company looking for a mobile presence to add Windows Phone 7 support to both its iPhone and Android efforts, meaning increasing presence for Windows Phone 7, which is very important indeed.
