The iPhone XR is proving to be one of Apple’s best decisions. According to analyst firm IH Markit Technology, that iPhone model is the best selling smartphone of 2019. Even beating out even Samsung’s much cheaper Galaxy A10 handset. When it comes to hardware like the Galaxy S10 of course, the iPhone handily outsells those. In the first half of 2019, the XR sold 26.9 million handsets, more than double that of the A10. It makes sense though, there’s only one XR being sold while Samsung has several levels of cheap phones ranging from the A10 to the A50.

“Compared to the Android-based smartphone makers, Apple maintains a relatively small model line-up,” said Jusy Hong, research and analysis director at IHS Markit | Technology. “This means that Apple’s total sales volume is divided among fewer models. As a result, each of Apple’s iPhone models tends to generate higher shipment numbers than comparable Android smartphones, such as those sold by Samsung.”

Other iPhones like the iPhone 8 and XS line were also in the top smartphones of 2019. Apple is expected to launch a new series of iPhones next week with the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max to capitalise on its continued success.
