Apple's 2019 iPhones will reportedly all have OLED screens

Apple has always shipped their iPhones with LCD screens — albeit excellently calibrated and colour accurate ones. That changed with the iPhone X when Apple shopped its first OLED screen enabled iPhone, now it appears to be changing even further with next year’s iPhones.

According to a new report, Apple will be equipping all its iPhones going forward with OLED displays on all three iPhones it will be shipping in 2019. The firm apparently made this decision recently, and while it could change at any point until the phone is in the hands of consumers, it seems more likely than not given the iPhone X.

While LCD screens are good and have their strong points, OLED screens are renowned for their deeper blacks and sharper contrast, allowing images to pop the screen more than on LCD displays. Microsoft and Nokia shipped beautiful OLED screens with the Lumia 950 XL and 930 back in the day, and Samsung continues to adorn its phones with SAmoled displays. While burn-in was once a consideration for OLED screens, the propensity for that to occur has reduced over the past few iterations of OLED displays, and Apple is taking advantage of that.
