Apple is finally planning to ditch their AirPort, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule routers and get out of the router business. The company revealed this to Engadget today, however, will continue to offer bug fixes and security patches for the devices going forward

Apple has been working on routers since 1999 when they first announced their AirPort lineup. Back then, Apple was trying to capture the market share before other companies came along. Right now, the company isn’t getting much profit out of the router business. One reason for this can be the popularity of other brands that provide the same features at an affordable cost.

However, Apple hasn’t completely exited the market. The company is still exploring the technology and might make a comeback in the future.
