In recent years, companies have switched to holding events in the fall to make sure their new hardware hits the market by the holiday season. We have already seen the new iPhones and other Apple products earlier this week. Next up we have Microsoft and Google who will announce their new hardware line up in October.
Squeezing between Apple, Microsoft and Google, Amazon today confirmed that they will be holding a hardware and services event on September 25. Last year, Amazon launched at least a dozen gadgets which included new Echo devices, Alexa-powered microwave, and even a wall clock. This year, we expect Amazon to launch a couple of Echo devices which might include an Alexa-powered robot and a high-end smart speaker.
Earlier this month, Amazon revealed a bunch of new Fire TV products at IFA 2019 in Berlin. At the September 25 event, we expect Amazon to shed some light on the privacy aspect as well. You might remember how Apple, Amazon, Google and Microsoft were caught snooping around the recordings of their respective voice assistants. Amazon did add an opt-out option to Alexa later to allow users to take control of their recordings. However, they still need to formally address the situation and how they plan to improve the privacy and protect the customers using their Alexa enabled products.
At this point, we don’t know what to expect at the event as Amazon didn’t send out fancy invites that were open to interpretations.
