Back in April, people using certain Alienware PCs found themselves unable to download the latest features update on Windows 10. This was due to an incompatibility error at the time, but it appears to have been fixed as of yesterday.

A Microsoft agent said the following in regards to the situation on the Microsoft forums:

This error message previously appeared when attempting to install the April 2018 Update on any of the following Dell devices:

  • Alienware 13 R3
  • Alienware 15 R3
  • Alienware 15 R4
  • Alienware 17 R4
  • Alienware 17 R5

Microsoft was previously blocking these models from installing the update due to a known incompatibility that may cause these devices to display a black screen after resuming from battery saver mode.  This incompatibility has been resolved and the block for these models has been removed.

Windows Update will notify you when the April 2018 Update is ready for your device.  Or you can check for the update manually by selecting the Start  button, then selecting Settings >Update & security > Windows Update , and then Check for updates.

Since this issue has been resolved, you should be able to install the April 2018 update without further delay.
