wp7evo Most US readers may not know that HTC’s first WIMAX phone was not the Android HTC Evo but the Windows Mobile-powered HTC MAX 4G.

Now there are rumours of another WIMAX handset by the company running Windows Mobile, to be released by ClearWire in US by the end of 2010.

The release of a HTC handset by Clearwire is pretty clear from the company’s Q1 2010 Conference call.  Whether the handset runs Windows Mobile depends rather much on reading between the lines, and the strategic absence of the word Android, present prominently next to the Samsung Android handset.

In Clearwire’s release they note:

The Company also expects to launch two WiMAX smartphones by the end of 2010. From Samsung, an Android-based 3G/4G/WiFi device optimized for heavy video and video communications use, and a 3G/4G/WiFi enabled phone from HTC.
