Xbox One Launch Event

Microsoft continues to make plenty of money from gaming. The company garnered a whopping sum of $2.6 billion revenue in the first half of 2015, as per the data provided by games market research firm Newzoo. The Xbox One maker was the second largest company in the world in terms of revenue.

The Redmond-based company is no stranger to gaming. Launched two years ago, the Xbox One continues to sell well and turn revenue, and Windows platform continues to be the top computing platform among the vast majority of gamers. And it seems the acquisition of insanely popular Minecraft title has paid off, too.

As per the data provided by Newzoo, Microsoft’s 2.682 billion revenue performance in the first half of 2015 saw an increase of 4 percent compared to the same period last year. Following Microsoft is PlayStation-maker Sony, which raked a sum of $2.4 billion, followed by EA at $2.3 billion. Chinese technology conglomerate Tencent retains the top position earning $4.239 billion.

Apple, which earns most of its money through distribution cut on iOS platform holds the sixth position with $2.08 billion, whereas Google, whose marquee marketplace Play Store hosts a range of games, finished seventh with $1.39 billion.

As for the PC games, Minecraft is the most popular title among users, followed by League of Legends, Garry’s Mod, Counter-Strike Go, and World of Warcraft.
