Telegram is building a new version of its app, Telegram X. Telegtran’s X purpose is to work on experimental new features and improvements separate from the main Telegram app, and potentially to get live feedback from users.

“We started relying on internal competition to feed our flames. This is why for the last two years we’ve been developing a new generation of Telegram clients in parallel with the main versions.” The Telegram team explained, “The Telegram X project features apps written from scratch, with an entirely new code base and without all the legacy components that our older apps have accumulated through the years.”

Telegram X has launched on iOS and Android at the moment (though has been currently pulled by Apple from its store temporarily). It features improvements over the current Telegram app, with reimagined media players, a message bubble-free chat mode, with smoother animations app-wide.

The firm will be adding new features as quickly as it can, with new features popping up from next week.

Windows 10 users aren’t entirely left out of the action, the developers of the Unigram app for Windows are building a Unigram X app for Telegram.

Much like Telegram X, this is a reinvention of an existing client, built on Telegram’s TDLib technology. The app will now support caching of message content for faster loading and offline use, as well as secret chat support.

Telegram does have an official app for Windows, but for users who want a UWP experience, Unigram is one of the only choices.
