LG is an increasingly small smartphone player, but the company does not wish to be left behind.

In an attempt to keep up with the Jones the company has applied for a design patent in Korea for a new smartphone with a full-screen bezel-less design which includes a camera under the display.

The design comes in two versions – a “straight” standard one and a “curved” version with one edge much narrower than the other.

Instead of a notch, the screen features an oval hole for the front-facing camera.

It seems, going by the high level of interest in behind-display cameras Apple’s notch will be a short-lived phenomenon, as we edge ever closer to the featureless glass slab of our dreams.
