Microsoft today announced a pretty big and sad news for Windows Phone fans: the company will no longer release any more Windows 10 Mobile builds to most Windows Phones. From now on, only a few Windows Phone devices will get Windows 10 Insider Preview builds. In other words, most Windows Phones will not get the upcoming Windows 10 Redstone 3 update.

Here are the devices that are supported by the Windows Insider program for the Redstone 3 builds now:

  • HP Elite x3
  • Microsoft Lumia 550
  • Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL
  • Microsoft Lumia 650
  • Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
  • Alcatel IDOL 4S
  • Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
  • SoftBank 503LV
  • VAIO Phone Biz
  • MouseComputer MADOSMA Q601
  • Trinity NuAns NEO

Devices that are not on the above list also won’t be getting the Windows 10 Creators Update, which is very disappointing to see especially considering the fact that the update runs just fine on most of the devices.

Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar stated in a blog post:

“We recognize that many Insiders will be disappointed to see their device is no longer supported. We looked at feedback from our Windows Insiders and realized that we were not providing the best possible experience for our customers on many older devices. That helped us determine which devices we support for the Windows 10 Creators Update. We are continually listening to your feedback to provide the best experience for ALL of our customers.”

It is definitely disappointing to see Microsoft dropping support for most Windows Phone devices at the moment. It also isn’t clear why exactly Microsoft is dropping support for most Windows Phones.
