On May 14, WhatsApp released a major update to its Windows beta app, introducing a refreshed interface along with new features like Channels and Communities. The update aims to improve how users interact on desktop by making group chats and broadcasts easier to manage.

The new interface adopts a cleaner design, moving chat, status, and calls into a simpler sidebar for quicker access. Users can now follow Channels, broadcast-only chats where admins share announcements without replies. This will help businesses and creators communicate with their audiences more efficiently.

Communities combine multiple groups under one umbrella, making it easier for organizations, clubs, and schools to manage discussions. Members can join specific groups within a community based on their interests or roles.

WhatsApp also improved notification controls, giving users more ways to customize alerts for different groups or channels. The update maintains end-to-end encryption across all features, keeping conversations secure.

This beta rollout previews features expected to come to the wider Windows app soon, as WhatsApp continues to strengthen its desktop experience and compete with other messaging platforms.
