June 2, 2025 – WhatsApp has released Android beta version 2.25.18.3 via the Google Play Beta Program, and it quietly reveals a long-awaited feature i.e. the partial message selection.
The feature, already live on iOS, lets users copy only specific parts of a message, such as words, phrases, or sentences, instead of the entire block of text. Android doesn’t have it yet, but the update shows it’s in development. It will let users tap, hold, and drag to highlight exactly what they want across individual chats, groups, and channels.

Right now, the feature remains inactive because it depends on a new message context menu. WhatsApp introduced this redesigned interface in a previous Android beta (2.23.11.4), but hasn’t launched it yet. The iOS version already uses this updated menu, which pairs with the selection tool.
WhatsApp’s partial message selection feature will save users time by removing the need to copy entire messages just to edit them elsewhere. WhatsApp hasn’t announced a launch date, but all signs point to it landing once the new interface rolls out.
Until then, Android users will need to wait while WhatsApp brings its UI in line with iOS. You can read more about the feature on WABetaInfo’s blog here.
