WhatsApp is currently working on plenty of new features to improve the overall app experience. One of the features that the company is currently developing is the support for audio playback in the WhatsApp notifications on iOS devices.

After months of internal testing, the Facebook-owned company is now rolling out the support for audio playback in the notifications to WhatsApp beta testers on iOS. Users will have to update to the latest beta version that is version 2.19.91.1 to get the new features, but if you’re beta testing WhatsApp Business then you’ll need version 2.19.90.8 of the app.

To see the feature in action, ask any of your WhatsApp contacts to send a voice message or an audio file, a WhatsApp notification will then pop-up on your iPhone. And now since the audio playback feature is supported in the notifications, you’ll just need to expand the notification that you just received to play the audio file — no need to open the app.

Unfortunately, you cannot reply to the audio file using your voice from the notifications. For that, you’ll have to go to open the app, but as usual, you can send text replies from the notification.

Note, those who haven’t got the update even after updating to the latest beta version are advised to back up your chat history and reinstall WhatsApp. If it doesn’t help, the best idea is to wait for the future beta update to arrive.
