Facebook has pushed out updates for the beta WhatsApp app on iOS and Android.

The Android WhatsApp beta app has been updated to version 2.19.86 with the following changes and improvements:

  • support for the Consecutive voice message (this still needs server-side activations) that allows all voice messages to be automatically played one after the other.
  • Improvements to Picture in Picture that allows the floating video streamed by sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Streamable to follow users when they switch to a different chat instead of closing. Eventually, the feature will allow video to continue playing in its floating window even when WhatsApp is sent to the background. This requires Android 8 or higher.

On iOS, WhatsApp beta has been updated in the TestFlight  Beta Program to 2.19.40.23.

The update adds:

  • When you receive a notification of a text message from a contact or group, you will see a new emoji  in the notification text label
  • two news transgender emojis that are not natively available in the Emoji Unicode.

The update should come to the mainstream version of the app on iOS in the next version.
