Twitter is testing drastic changes to its app, adds new camera

Twitter today introduced a new camera to its app as all social media services have in the past year. This new camera functionality makes it easier — and more desirable — to snap and send photos on the app.
“We’ve really intentionally tried to make the images and footage that are captured on the ground at an event look different than other images and videos that you might attach to a tweet,” said Keith Coleman, Twitter’s head of consumer product.

As you can see above, Twitter’s new images look to be styled a lot like the new Stories popularised by Snapchat and Instagram. Twitter, which used to be a text-based service, has evolved beyond that with gifs being a popular means of communication on the platform. Now, this new camera feature wants to make images prettier.
Twitter is also testing out features that go even further in prototype app Twttr. The firm is trialling out hiding like and retweet buttons. You’ll still be able to see how many likes and retweets a tweet has, it just won’t be immediately available at first.
Twitter wants to radically overhaul its various apps. While it is often spoken of in the same breath as Facebook and Instagram, it doesn’t have as many users or means to grow as the other platforms.
