Earlier this year, Twitter announced that the company will soon stop counting usernames and links as part of its 140 character limit for tweets. Today, the change is finally live, and it’s rolling out across all of Twitter apps. For example, when you tweet a link to an article with a media attached (GIF, static image or video), Twitter won’t count the link or the media for the 140 character limit. Additionally, when you reply to someone, their username won’t count for the 140 character limit:

Twitter states that Quote Tweets and Polls will also no longer be counted towards the 140 character tweet limit, which is also pretty neat. Needless to say, this was a much-needed update for Twitter, and it’s nice to see the feature finally arrive. Keep in mind that the change doesn’t seem to be live on the Twitter app for Windows 10, but we suspect the update is still rolling out — therefore, it might take a while to be available.
