THQ Nordic has announced that it has acquired the Kingdoms of Amalur IP from Rhode Island-based 38 Studios, which shuttered in 2012 after defaulting on a loan and declaring bankruptcy.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was 38 Studios’ only title, which also happened to release the same year the studio closed down. Set in a fantasy world of the Faelands, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an RPG that follows the story of a character known as the Fateless One, who was killed prior to the game’s opening but eventually revived, as they search for answers regarding their death.

THQ Nordic made no mention of a sequel, but with this recent acquisition it looks like Kingdoms of Amalur may be returning at some point in the future.

You can pick up Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for $19.99 on Xbox 360.
