OnePlus is one of the few companies that managed to roll out the Android 10 update to its latest smartphones. Android 10-based OxygenOS is already available for both OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro smartphones, however, the 5G variant of the 7 Pro in Europe is yet to get the latest Android update.
Unfortunately for OnePlus 7 Pro 5G users, the Android 10-based OxygenOS will not be released this year. Instead, the company has planned to make the update available for 7 Pro 5G users in the first quarter of 2020. OnePlus 6 and 6T are also expected to get the latest version of Android around that time.
In a forum post, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau explained the reason why the company had to push the release date of Android 10 for the 5G variant of the 7 Pro smartphones. To be able to make system optimizations from the fundamental system architecture, in order to deliver a truly fantastic 5G experience is a “daunting challenge,” according to CEO Pete Lau. He also termed it “an arduous and time-consuming process”.
This is an arduous and time-consuming process that wouldn’t be possible without the support of our partners Qualcomm and wireless operators. But we promise that in this exciting new 5G era, OnePlus will undoubtedly overcome these obstacles and deliver the latest operating system for your 5G smartphones as soon as it is ready.
Based on the current R&D progress and compatibility with various partners, we’re expecting to launch the Android 10 system update for OnePlus 7 Pro 5GÂ in the first quarter of 2020.
CEO Pete Lau, however, didn’t reveal the exact release date.
