The release date for The Last of Us Part II was dropped today during PlayStation’s State of Play spot. The game is set to come out early next year, with an official release date of February 21st, 2020.

The Last of Us Part II is an upcoming action-adventure video game that’s a sequel to the 2013 game The Last of Us.

In the original The Last of Us, players follow apocalypse survivors Joel and Ellie as they make their way across a post-apocalyptic America in search of a cure for a plague that wiped out almost all of humanity. Joel is tasked with smuggling Ellie across the country to a safe zone, a task that’s hard enough as it is without plague-infected beings trying to kill you.

In Part II, players assume the role of an older Ellie, five years after the events of the original game. As well as having to deal with the usual set of things that come with the apocalypse, such as plague-infected beings, Ellie also has to deal with a strange cult that’s spreading across the American wasteland.

Fans of the series will be pleased to learn that Joel is set to return in Part II, with voice actor Troy Baker set to reprise his role, and apparently on track to reunite with Ellie.

The Last of us Part II will be out on PlayStation 4 on February 21st, 2020.
