Interestingly phone calls would work too, except Windows 10 desktop lacks a UI for making and receiving the calls, with no dialler present in the desktop OS.
To be clear
This is a landline calling the 950 XL, and it rings since changes have been made. Windows does seem to have code from WP still to handle calls, but the entire UI is missing from desktop, so there's no UI.https://t.co/MPszPyNWDi— Gustave Monce ? (@gus33000) May 13, 2019
Update: Gustave appears to have managed to get phone calling to work too.
I just called a friend using a 950 XL running WoA and I just received a call. I could hear the other end well and he could also hear me. Success

The LumiaWOA project now has firmware you can download and install using WPinternals which makes installation as easy as flashing with any other firmware. It does replace the Windows 10 Mobile install, so users need to back up their data of course.
The latest ROMs with these new features enabled are available here.
