This is of course not directly related to Windows Phone, but Fortune is passing along a rumour that Bill Gates is contemplating a return to Microsoft after leaving more than 3 years ago.
Based on a tenuous “friend of a friend†rumour (one prominent chief executive told Fortune he’d heard from someone close to Gates that he might be considering such a move) the move is expected to boost Microsoft’s stock price, which has been flat for the last 10 years.
Now I do not fall in the group that is asking for Steve Ballmer’s head – he has been executing extremely well in the last 3 years, with Windows 7, Bing and the reboot of Windows Phone, but public perception is against Microsoft, and it may be that the company needs such a change simply to generate good PR and raise expectations for the company, which are terminally low at present, despite booming profits.
More can be read at Fortune here.
What do our readers think? Is this an overdue move, or should Bill Gates, who has great vision, but who never really executed very well on it (tabletPC, Windows Mobile, Spot watches, Windows Live Search etc.), remain in retirement? Let us know below.
