6In what is another official mention of Windows Phone 8, the CEO of ST-Ericsson confirmed to Dow Jones Newswires their Nokia deal was for Windows Phone 8.
ST-Ericsson’s Chief Executive Gilles Delfassy said the deal between Nokia and ST-Ericsson announced Wednesday is for Nokia devices running the next upgrade of Microsoft’s operating system, Windows Phone 8.
“Hence, this deal isn’t an immediate undertaking,” Delfassy said.
Delfassy said he hopes to be able to announce more deals with handset manufacturers, and highlighted that ST-Ericsson has deals with seven of the nine largest makers of handsets in the world.
Windows Phone 8 is expected to not just bring dual core support, but also support for HD screens and other technologies, and also user interface improvements.
