For a Windows fan, there are two frustrating things about the state of music streaming on Windows. The first; Microsoft killed off its native music service with Groove Music. The second, Microsoft’s handpicked replacement wasn’t a universal Windows app. For users who want those two itches scratched, Spotimo addresses that.
Spotimo is a Spotify client that evokes Groove nostalgia not only in its design language but in the fluent touches dotted all over the app. There are some caveats. One, it is currently listed as Beta, so some crashes are to be expected. The now playing interface isn’t as fleshed out and convenient as I’d like. There’s no way to see what’s currently about to play unless you’re on the page for the playlist or album, for example.
Finally, it’s a client app and is as such at the mercy of Spotify’s good graces.
With that said, here’s what it offers:
- Control all your Spotify Devices remotely
- In-app streaming – No official client required!
- Native Cortana voice support
- Multi-User support
- Music videos (via MyTube)
- Non-premium playback
- Play any song, album, artist or playlist instantly
Spotimo for Spotify is available from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 devices. It also works on mobile, if you’re interested.
