Spirit of the North 2, developed by Infuse Studio and published by Merge Games, is now available on Xbox Series X|S. This sequel takes the story ahead in an open-world experience inspired by the landscapes and folklore of Iceland.

Tayler Christensen, the lead developer, revealed that the game’s major environmental design is inspired by his 2016 trip to Reykjavík. This is also reflected in the game, where the country’s volcanic terrains, glacial lagoons, and geothermal features can be seen.

The game’s protagonist was inspired by the Finnish myth of the Tulikettu. The legend was based on a mythical fox whose fiery tail is said to create the Northern Lights. And voila! Players get to play as a fox imbued with aurora-like energy, accompanied by a raven. Together, they are set on their mission to restore ancient guardians and confront the dark shaman Grimnir.

The Spirit of the North 2 emphasizes exploration and environmental storytelling, eschewing dialogue in favor of visual cues and ambient sounds to convey its narrative. Players can customize the fox’s appearance and abilities, discover runes to enhance skills, and engage in puzzle-based encounters with formidable foes. Spirit of the North 2 is priced at $29.99. The game can also be availed for a 15% discount available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers until May 22.
