Microsoft today announced a new build for Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview. The build isn’t available for all phones just yet, because of some server issues. However, some users have started getting updates on their phone. Now, surprisingly enough, instead of getting Windows 10 for Phones Build 10051, they’re getting Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 aka GDR2. Here is a screenshot confirming the news (click to enlarge):
The above screenshot was tweeted by one of our readers on Twitter and he states that he received Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 while trying to update to Windows 10 for Phones on his Lumia 1520. Of course, this doesn’t mean all the users are getting Update 2 – however, another reader of our site is also stating that he has received Update 2 while trying to update to Windows 10 for Phones on his Lumia 925.
Update: Confirmed! Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul has just confirmed that some users are getting Update 2 while updating to WP10, he states:
@mehedih_ Yes, on some phones we need to bring up the baseline on 8.1 to make the jump to 10.

For those of you who missed it, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 was supposed to roll out only for Lumia 640, 640XL, Lumia 735 and Lumia 830. However, as it looks like, some other phones might get Update 2 sometime soon as well.
It’s worth noting that if you get Update 2, you’ll immediately get Windows 10 for Phones Build 10051 – so you can’t really stay on Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 even if you wanted to.
Have you received Update 2 while trying to update to Windows 10 for Phones? Let us know in the comment section below!
