Shortly after updating its Windows 10 Mobile apps with animated emoticons, Microsoft pushed out an update to its legacy Skype app for Windows Phone 8.1 as well.

While this update does not add any new features, what it does add is quite a few more emoticons (a move that is oddly ironic in light of a Sunday discussion)

You can now add the Microsoft branded emojis like Office, Word, Bing and Skype, the ninja cat riding a dinosaur emoji and even moon people with your mooning Santa emoticon.

Strangely enough, many of the emoticons added in last night’s update aren’t available in Windows 10 universal Skype, and the emojis do not animate in the Windows Phone 8.1 Skype app, highlighting a feature fragmentation that needs to be cleared up sooner rather than later.
