Samsung last year announced that it would be launching a Smart Speaker to take on the Google Home — the Galaxy Home. This one would be powered by its own homegrown personal assistant of some disrepute – Boxby. And that was the end of that, the firm didn’t release more concrete updates about the project — until today.

Samsung has now released a beta project for this, allowing testers to register between the dates of August 28th – September 1st.

It’s not the same thing as a blog post or a roadshow announcement, but its something indicative – especially as the firm launches new updates to its line of phones and tablets.

“The Galaxy Home speaker, which will be the center of Samsung’s home appliances, is planned to be launched in mid-second half of the year,” Samsung’s CEO said earlier in June, and this is just about that time.

Samsung may actually make this piece of vapourware tangible if it manages to get its act together.
