What’s the most embarrassing situation a multiplatform game can experience? Well, being bested by an exclusive on a platform which doesn’t really have an established player base is up there. That’s exactly what happened to Prey last week in the United Kingdom. Despite the fact that the Nintendo Switch has sold nowhere near the volumes of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (and definitely PC), it still managed to beat games like Prey to claim the top spot. This is definitely shocking considering the hype surrounding that title.

However, it seem as though gamers were cautious because Bethesda didn’t provide review copies until launch day. Well, now that the dust has settled and many positive reviews are out, it seems that Prey is finally back on track. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe witnessed a 60% drop in the United Kingdom while Prey witnessed only a 32% drop. Many large-scale games go down as much as 75% so the fact that Prey only dropped by 32% is surprising. It also means that gamers are willing to give it a shot after that initial period of uncertainty. The top 10 games for last week in the United Kingdom are as follows:

  1. Prey
  2. Grand Theft Auto V
  3. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
  4. FIFA 17
  5. Rocket League
  6. Lego Worlds
  7. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  8. Ghost Recon Wildlands
  9. Horizon Zero Dawn
  10. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Prey is a great experience that all gamers should try out. Successful single-player games are a dying breed so it’s great to see the title do well. Hopefully it will continue to chart in the top 10 for weeks to come. Unfortunately, that seems highly unlikely given the fact that Injustice 2, Shadow Warrior 2 and The Surge are releasing this week.
