Microsoft today released PowerToys version 0.79. The latest update to this popular Windows utility brings a lot of bug fixes, but more notably, it brings a design change to the Color Picker Tool, which now lines up with the looks of Windows 11. Other than that, the update brings the usual bug fixes. Here’s a look at everything you need to know.
Starting first with the highlight, Color Picker is now using WPFUI, and its design language now matches the Fluent UX principles many other Microsoft apps use. Basically, the floating window that appears when you launch Color Picker now looks a lot cleaner, with more depth and some slight glow. The other change to Color Picker brings enable and disable telemetry to align it with the other utilities. We’re highlighting the other big changes for you in this release below.
- Refactored code so that English is used as a fallback language when a localized resource cannot be found.
- The setting now reverts to “Keep using the current power plan” after Awake deactivates itself after any of the timed modes has expired.
- Fixed a memory leak occurring on work area changes in FancyZones.
- Added support to the .ksh, .zsh, .bsh and .env file types to Monaco previewer in File Explorer add-ons.
- Added as an entry in the Windows 11 tier 1 context menu in File Locksmith.
- Units and resize modes are now localized in Image Resizer.
- Added a feature that allows remapping a shortcut to starting an application in Keyboard Manager.
- Fixed an issue causing the target path string to be corrupted when registering as a service in Mouse Without Borders.
- Prevent the start menu from activating when the Windows key is part of the activation shortcut and is released sooner in Paste as Plain Text.
- Fixed broken links in doc/devdocs/readme.md
- Fixed an alignment issue in the flyout icons in settings causing some icons to be centered when they shouldn’t.
- Added support for the Slovenian character set in Quick Accent.
