Back in 2021, Samsung first announced its 200-Megapixel (MP) Image Sensor. Since then, Samsung has introduced new technologies such as Dual-VTG and Tetra pixel to improve pixel technology. Samsung today announced two innovative solutions to further improve the high-resolution imaging experience. These new features could be part of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra device which features a 200 MP image sensor.
ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace:
Previously, users had to manually focus on a moving subject while filming. However, with the integration of ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace and Qualcomm AI engine, the camera swiftly identifies a moving subject and tracks it, ensuring no moment is missed during filming. This feature is particularly effective for fast-moving subjects and helps prevent them from going off-screen. It also reduces screen shake during video capture.
ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace also enhances the quality of zoomed-in areas by applying real-time remosaic capabilities. This feature allows users to capture both the full field of view and zoomed-in areas simultaneously while maintaining high resolution. This dual filming capability unlocks creative potential by providing versatility in recording a scene from multiple angles.
The new feature also includes in-sensor zoom by Tetra pixel, eliminating the need for users to be selective due to zoom limitations. In contrast to digital zoom, which reduces image resolution when zooming in on a region of interest (ROI), in-sensor zoom maintains the original 12.5MP resolution by selecting the area to be zoomed in on from the entire scope and remosaicing it.
This advancement allows for more vivid video capture and eliminates the need for cameras to switch from wide to tele when zooming in at 3x or more, which previously caused changes in image quality and angle. Now, the 200MP wide camera can seamlessly zoom in at 2x or even 4x without any drop-off in resolution.
With these enhancements, Samsung’s ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace is set to provide users with a true-to-life filming experience, revolutionizing the way we capture moments on our smartphones.
End-to-End (E2E) AI Remosaic:
Samsung is expanding its innovative solutions with the introduction of End-to-End (E2E) AI Remosaic for image capture, a feature designed to complement its Zoom Anyplace video solution. The current process followed by the 200MP image sensor involves sequential steps: raw data output, remosaic, image signal processing (ISP), and finally, JPEG image output.
E2E AI Remosaic revolutionizes this process by enabling the remosaic and ISP to occur simultaneously. This parallel processing approach effectively halves the remosaic latency, resulting in faster overall image processing times. This enhancement reduces the shooting time of 200MP images and significantly improves image quality.
With E2E AI Remosaic, users can capture and review photos more quickly. The feature also minimizes image quality deterioration caused by data loss from latency. As a result, photos taken with this feature will exhibit richer details and more vibrant colors, offering users an improved photography experience.
