Cortana_H4_RenderIts rather well known through internet circles that Microsoft does not have a knack for naming things, with their code names usually 10x as good as the actual retail name.

Few code names have however struck as much of a cord as Cortana, Microsoft’s code name for their upcoming Windows Phone virtual assistant, and of course ever faithful companion of the Master chief in Halo.

There is currently as user voice request asking Microsoft to keep the Cortana name when the product is officially released, and in less than 24 hours it has already gathered 2000 votes.

The petition reads:

I think its a very good idea to keep Cortana as the official name of the personal assistant that Microsoft is working on. I have seen a lot of positive comments around gaming news sites and tech news sites. People are actually willing to buy a Windows Phone if the Personal Assistant is named Cortana. Its a great marketing strategy.

Just look at all the positive reaction, People are getting excited about Windows Phone just because of this!

This will be great for Windows Phone.

If you agree, you can add your votes at Microsoft’s User Voice site here.

Thanks Ingiomar for the tip.
