Key notes
- Microsoft is adding a “Recall” feature to Outlook for Mac, allowing email retraction within the same organization.
- Unlike Apple’s Undo Send, it has a longer retraction window but is limited to Microsoft 365 or Exchange accounts.
- Outlook for Mac is now free, supporting various email services like Gmail, iCloud, and IMAP.
Microsoft is updating Outlook for Mac to include a feature called Recall, but not that AI-powered tool that could recall everything you do on your Copilot+ PCs.
The Redmond company recently updated its support page (shout out to 9to5Mac for the spot!). With the Recall feature on Outlook for Mac, you can retract an email after sending it, but only if both the sender and the recipient have Microsoft 365 or Exchange accounts within the same organization.
It works just like Apple’s Undo Send function in Mail, but unlike that, Microsoft has a longer retraction window although it’s limited to internal communication within the same company, school, or organization. The feature is currently in beta.
Though, as Microsoft says on the support page, the feature is not available for emails sent to or from personal accounts like Hotmail or Gmail.
In Outlook for the web, you can recall a message by selecting the “Recall Message” button, and then a recall report will show if the attempt was successful or failed. But, Outlook.com does not support message recall, though users can enable an “Undo Send” feature, which delays the sending of an email by 5 or 10 seconds to cancel it.
A while ago, Microsoft made Outlook for Mac free for macOS users by removing the previous requirement for a Microsoft 365 subscription or Office license. The app now supports a variety of email services, including Outlook.com, Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo!, and IMAP accounts
