OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research lab, has announced the launch of a new team and challenge to mitigate catastrophic risks from frontier AI. The AI company also opened the OpenAI Preparedness Challenge where you can win up to $25,000 in API credits.

The AI Preparedness Challenge is a competition to identify new and innovative ways to prevent the catastrophic misuse of AI. It’s open to anyone interested in developing solutions — just like how Google and Microsoft have their bounty program for AI.

The tech maker also promises that the top 10 submissions will receive the main prize. You can submit proposals for new research projects, tools, or any kind of resources, and selected ideas will be published on the website.

The Preparedness team, on the other hand, will focus on evaluating the abilities and dangers of cutting-edge AI models and developing strategies to prevent them from being used for harmful purposes. It’s also recruiting talents worldwide to join the team.

“The team will help track, evaluate, forecast, and protect against catastrophic risks spanning multiple categories including individualized persuasion, cybersecurity, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, autonomous replication and adaptation (ARA),” says the company in the official announcement.
