Google is now offering rewards to security researchers who find and report vulnerabilities in generative AI systems, thanks to the new bounty program for AI.

In other words, you can win some financial compensation with Google’s new bounty program for AI if you could help spotting bugs or in their AI, hoping that by offering rewards for security research and making AI supply chains more secure, it can work with other organizations to make AI safer for everyone.

This move comes just days after Microsoft announced its own bug bounty program for AI. In Google, it’s called the Vulnerability Rewards Program (VRP).

Generative AI is a double edged sword. It can create new content, but it also raises new security concerns. It could be used to create fake news articles or social media posts, or even to manipulate people’s behavior.

“As part of expanding VRP for AI, we’re taking a fresh look at how bugs should be categorized and reported,” says the company in the official announcement.

Besides, Google is also working to make AI supply chains more secure. They’re using SLSA and Sigstore to prevent things like tampering with models, contaminating data, and creating harmful content.
