OpenAI now allows users to store and process data for its API services exclusively within Asia. Located in Singapore, the new data region caters to the increasing demand for regional data governance and privacy compliance.
This means customers using OpenAI’s API, like GPT-4, DALL·E, and Whisper, can now keep their data stored entirely within Singapore. OpenAI states that data from these users will remain within the Asia data region unless explicitly configured otherwise.

Importantly, OpenAI confirmed that no API data is used for training its models by default. The company also claims that its API services in the Asia region will offer the same performance and reliability as other regions.
The move comes amid growing scrutiny over data localization and sovereignty. By opening this data region, OpenAI is looking to support companies that must meet strict data residency rules while expanding its footprint in one of the world’s most rapidly digitizing markets.
