OpenAI has announced the launch of its data residency program in Asia, enabling enterprise and educational customers to store data within Japan, India, Singapore, or South Korea. This initiative applies to ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, and the OpenAI API platform, allowing organizations to meet regional data sovereignty requirements. The program ensures that data remains confidential, secure, and entirely owned by the user, enhancing control for organizations operating in these countries.

This development follows OpenAI’s earlier rollout of a similar program in Europe and aligns with its broader strategy to expand international infrastructure. The company recently introduced “OpenAI for Countries,” an initiative aimed at building infrastructure to better serve international clientele.

OpenAI’s expansion in Asia is further evidenced by its plans to establish an Asia-Pacific hub in Singapore, following the opening of its Tokyo office earlier this year. The Singapore office will support customers in the region and focus on collaborations with governments and businesses.
