OnePlus is one of the few OEMs that deliver major Android updates in a timely manner. It recently started rolling out the Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 update to the OnePlus 8 series, with a promise that the latest version of the Android will also be rolled out to OnePlus 7, 7T series, and OnePlus 6, 6T series. Now, the company recently shared the Android 11 update timeline with Android Authority.
OnePlus confirmed that the OxygenOS 11 update will be rolled out to all the 2019 OnePlus smartphones sometime in December 2020. It means that we can expect that the latest Android update will be available on the OnePlus 7 and 7T series by the end of this year.
It’s likely that the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro will get the latest update first, and after that, the update will show up on OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro smartphones. That being said, we still don’t know when the update will become available for OnePlus 6 and 6T smartphones as the company is yet to have a word on that. And that gives us an opportunity to make some educated guesses — in all likelihood, the OxygenOS 11 update will show up on OnePlus 6 and 6T devices by the end of the first quarter of 2021.
Meanwhile, OnePlus is preparing to start the shipping process of the OnePlus 8T, the company’s first smartphone to offer Android 11 out of the box. But if you already have an OnePlus smartphone newer than 5T, you’ll be able to install the latest update by going to Settings > System > System updates. Before you proceed with the installation, here is a piece of advice: make sure that the battery level of your smartphone is above 30% and that the minimum storage space available is 3GB.
