Last week WhatsApp promised to bring back the old text-based single status line after customer feedback, and the company has of course been testing the new feature in betas of the WhatsApp app for some time now.
Now the company has rolled out versionĀ 2.17.144 of the mainstream of the app, which brings the “new” feature back to the app.
In an earlier statementĀ delivered to TechCrunch, a WhatsApp spokesperson had the following to say
We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so weāve integrated this feature into the āAboutā section in profile settings. Now, the update will appear next to profile names anytime you view contacts, such as when creating a new chat or looking at Group info. At the same time, weāre continuing to build on the new Status feature that gives people fun and engaging ways to share photos, videos and GIFs with their friends and family throughout their day
The latest version of the app can be found in the Store here.
