It seems Microsoft’s settlement with Metro AG involved more than the name of their UI.

Microsoft has updated the Windows Store certification documentation adding that having the word Metro will result in an app not being approved to publication in the Windows Store.

The new entry reads:

Note Make sure your app name doesn’t include the word metro. Apps with a name that includes the word metro will fail certification and won’t be listed in the Windows Store.

Long Zheng from Istartedsomething.com notes that the incredibly popular MetroTwit app may now be banned from Marketplace, and that it is unprecedented for Microsoft to enforce trademark claims in 3rd party developers. His company is now seeking legal advice on the issue?
