Finnish newspaper Iltasonomat.fi reports that the ruggedness of the Nokia Lumia was tested on a rather extreme way recently when a worker lost their phone on a mining site.
Doing the obvious, he called the phone, and was surprised to hear it ringing, seemingly from underground, where it had been buried by the earth moving equipment.
It took a 6 man digging team to unearth the device half a metre underground, where the functional but somewhat battered device was discovered.
The screen was shattered, and the body somewhat distorted, but everything still worked except being able to hang up on phone calls.
While Nokia Care said they would try and fix it, our owner was so impressed with the ruggedness of the device he shelled out right away for a new one.
The survival of the phone follows a long string of similar incidents which has given Nokia phones a reputation of being rather bullet proof. Read more on the tales at Iltasonomat.fi here.
